Q: What was your “ah-ha” moment that inspired you to start Crazy Good Turns?
A: I retired from Home Depot in April 2015, shortly after my boss, CEO Frank Blake did. We stayed in close touch and over coffee one day that November, Frank made the observation that, in the end, the core of our business success together was that we were simply good storytellers…. We told stories that inspired our 500,000 employees, stories that gave investors confidence in our plans, stories that interested the media. It was Frank’s idea to create Crazy Good Turns as a way to tell stories that inspire.
Q: What is the mission of your podcast/ how is it helping make a positive change in the world?
A: It’s quite simple: we celebrate people who do amazing things for others. We hope it serves as something of an antidote to all the nastiness in the world, but also that it inspires people to do their own crazy good turns, big and small.
Q: What has been your favorite part of the journey so far?
A: Easily, the reaction from the people we’ve featured. Most of them have told us they’ve never had their story told with such grace and beauty. Pretty cool.
Q: What are your future plans for Crazy Good Turns?
A: We’ll be wrapping up season one in December and are planning to kick off season two in April 2017. We already have a few great new episodes in the works. Beyond that, we’re definitely exploring ways to expand the CGT brand to other relevant efforts, but nothing to announce yet.
Q: Who would be your dream guest to have on the show?
Q: What book inspired you the most in life?
Martin Luther King’s Why We Can’t Wait, about the nonviolent direct action campaign he led in Birmingham in 1963. There’s one line in particular that’s relevant to CGT: “We must use time creatively, in the knowledge that the time is always ripe to do right.”
